London Crossbow Attacker Had Been Reported For Stalking

London, UK – The man shot dead by police while attempting to force entry into a London building armed with multiple weapons had previously been reported for stalking, authorities say.

The 30-year-old suspect, identified as Bryce Hodgson, was carrying crossbows, a knife, a sword, and a hatchet when confronted by police outside a residence on Bywater Place in Surrey Quays shortly before 5 AM Tuesday morning. He was also wearing body armour at the time.

Unarmed officers first attempted to speak with Hodgson but were threatened. Armed police officers arriving on scene then shot the suspect when he entered the building.

First aid was administered but the man died at the scene. Investigators from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) later confirmed the deceased had been subject to a banning order related to prior stalking allegations. He was also known to at least one of the occupants within the Surrey Quays address.

Body-worn camera footage reviewed by the IOPC showed Hodgson attempting to threaten individuals inside the residence before he was killed. The incident remains under investigation.
