A distressing incident unfolded in Clapham, South London, as nine individuals sustained injuries following an apparent acid attack targeting a woman and two young children.
The Metropolitan Police swiftly responded to the distress call from Lessar Avenue at approximately 7:25 pm on Wednesday. Initial reports indicated that a woman and two children fell victim to a corrosive substance, sparking chaos in the area.
In a tragic turn, six more individuals, including three members of the public and three police officers, were injured while coming to the aid of the victims. Among the injured, five required hospitalization.
Detective Superintendent Alexander Castle briefed the press, stating that while investigations are underway to identify the substance, early indications point to it being corrosive. The perpetrator, described as a man fleeing the scene, remains at large, prompting a comprehensive police operation to apprehend the individual responsible.

As the investigation progresses, authorities have refrained from making any arrests and pledged to provide updates on the condition of the injured parties.
Local politician Marina Ahmad, Labour’s London Assembly member for Lambeth and Southwark, shed light on the harrowing ordeal, revealing that the victims were assaulted while inside a vehicle. She conveyed the severity of the situation, stating, “There has been a traffic collision with a man assaulting occupants in a car and throwing acid. Victims include children.”
Emergency services, including firefighters equipped with specialized gear, swiftly intervened to contain the situation. The London Fire Brigade, in collaboration with other emergency responders, provided urgent care to the victims and deployed measures to detect and neutralize the corrosive substance.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service confirmed the extent of their response, detailing the dispatch of multiple units to the scene. In total, nine individuals received medical attention, with five requiring transfer to a major trauma center for further treatment.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting heightened vigilance and calls for swift justice as authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the heinous attack.
