Manchester Airport Hits Milestone with No Security Queues Over 15 Minutes Despite Record Passenger Traffic

MANCHESTER, England – Manchester Airport has achieved a remarkable feat, ensuring that every passenger passed through security in less than 15 minutes during February, a month that saw record-breaking passenger numbers. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for the airport, as it continues to enhance its operational efficiency while accommodating increasing travel demand.

According to airport officials, February witnessed 1.9 million passengers passing through its terminals, setting a new record for the month and surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 14 percent compared to the same period last year. This achievement represents the third consecutive month of passenger growth for the airport, buoyed by a busy half-term holiday period.

Notably, while handling this influx of travelers, Manchester Airport managed to maintain exceptional service levels, with every single passenger queueing for less than 15 minutes to reach security. This milestone is the first time the airport has achieved such a feat across all three of its terminals since it began tracking passenger wait times at security checkpoints.

Chris Woodroofe, Managing Director of Manchester Airport, expressed his delight at the airport’s performance, stating, “We’re here to serve the people of the North, and it’s clear that they are really excited to travel this year. We keep breaking our monthly passenger records, which is great to see – but what’s especially pleasing is that we’re providing a really good service to everyone who travels with us, with no one waiting more than 15 minutes to get to security.”

Woodroof also highlighted the airport’s efforts to ensure a seamless travel experience, including the recruitment of additional security staff and reminding passengers to plan their journeys accordingly, ensuring they comply with airline requirements and security regulations.

As the Easter and summer travel seasons approach, Manchester Airport anticipates further growth in passenger numbers. The airport is urging travelers to plan their journeys in advance, adhere to airline baggage requirements, arrive at the recommended time (usually two hours before their flight), and prepare for security checks by avoiding liquids exceeding 100 milliliters.

Manchester Airport’s Transformation Programme is also progressing, with the recently opened Terminal 2 being lauded as one of the most beautiful in the world. Additionally, the airport has introduced new routes, including inaugural flights to Amman with Royal Jordanian Airlines, flights to Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc, and upcoming services to Las Vegas set to commence in June.

With its commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvements, Manchester Airport aims to provide a seamless and efficient travel experience for passengers, even during the busiest periods of the year.
