Seven Teenagers Arrested After Security Staff Assaulted at Bury Shopping Centre

Bury, UK – Seven teenage offenders were arrested after security guards were attacked at a JD Sports store in The Rock shopping centre in Bury. Police said the group were arrested on suspicion of affray following reports of an assault on Saturday, January 9.

A group of nine youths allegedly entered the store and “attempted to select items which they were likely not going to pay for”. In a social media post, Greater Manchester Police Bury North said The Rock and JD Sports security staff confronted the group and “deterred them from making off with stolen items”.

One member of the group was detained by security, which police say prompted an assault on the staff by the other offenders. Officers say the suspects were all able to flee before seven of the original nine were located by neighbourhood police and taken into custody for questioning.

Investigators have asked anyone with footage of the incident to contact police.

The full Facebook post read: “On Saturday 13th January 2024, a group of 9 male teen offenders thought they would attend Bury town centre specifically the JD store on The Rock and commit crime. They entered the store as a group and attempted to select items which they were likely not going to pay for, fortunately the staff within the store assisted by The Rock security and deterred them from making off with any stolen items.

“One of the teenage offenders was detained by the security staff but the rest of the group then started to assault the security staff by pushing and shoving them before making off as a group…”
